1. f-cell 2004 - International fuel cell forum starts September, 27th

There have never been so many exhibitors on the f-cell forum for producers and user before. 32 companies will exhibit in Stuttgart on September 26/27th, 11 more than last year. But the main attraction will be the German-wide largest congress for fuel cells, in which participants from all over Europe, America and Asia will be present.
"A distinctively larger program with even more international consultants" says Peter Sauber, chair-man of Peter Sauber Agency, who guided the forum within 4 years to a significant international congress with various highlights.
An essential part of the established reputation is based on the highly qualified contributors from 10 different countries. E.g. experts from Asia will give a profound picture of the development of fuel cell in the Far East.
Additionally there are many different activities: lending out of the f-cell award, presentation of a new fuel cell bus produced by DaimlerChrysler, road test with the ‚F-Cell' (fuel cell powered A-class model), presentation of the Hysun3000, excursion to research laboratories in the region, Kick-Off-Meeting of the workgroup "Fuel-Cell-Systems for Transportation" of the International Energy Agency (IEA) etc.

2. Hysun 3000 - energy saving record trip with a hydrogen vehicle

"Only 3 kg of Hydrogen to go from Berlin to Barcelona" - this is the record the constructors of the new Hydrogen vehicle are trying to attempt. On September, 7th, "Hysun 3000" departed from Berlin to its 3000 km energy-saving trip.
"The run from Berlin to Barcelona will show, that even in our days hydrogen-powered vehicles can catch up with the demands of modern road traffic and still be efficient" says Simone Probst, Secretary of State-Ministry of the Environment and patron of this event. Further more Probst says, compared to conventional vehicles, Hydrogen-powered vehicles could emit less than 10% of the green-house gases, if its fuel is produced based on renewable energies.
Even if Hydrogen is not relevant at present as fuel for vehicles, regarding the future steps for hydrogen infrastructure und upcoming economy have to be taken today.
HYSUN3000 is a result of a non-commercial project team, realized independently from the first ideas to the admission of the road authority. The vehicle can go up to 80 km/h and will face heavy commuter traffic as well as extreme ascents on its way.
The aim of the HYSUN3000 project-team is to manage the whole distance by using only 3 kg of hydrogen, which is the equivalent of 11 litres of petrol or just an average consumption of 0,4 l/100 km.
This would represent a fuel consumption never reached before. "We need signals like this to change the energy market, especially in highly industrialized countries" says Probst.

3. Hydrogeit Publisher presents new hydrogen CD-Rom

Innovative technologies demand for modern media presentation. Due to this reason Hydrogeit Publisher has taken huge efforts in developing a new information carrier. The result is a multi-media CD-Rom, which imparts comprehensive knowledge about hydrogen and fuel cells and was for the first time be presented on the H2Expo in Hamburg.
The new Hydrogen CD-Rom offers a huge variety of information, running from the detection of the element Hydrogen to the modern use of fuel cells in mobile phones. Additionally to the extensive data content numerous downloads are available, which provide a deep insight into the world of hydrogen. On top of this a link list as well as a quiz is available to extend knowledge and satisfy curiosity.
The historical development of fuel cells is shown on a movable time scale in a very detailed but clear way. The function of fuel cells is shown and assisted by easy traceable animations and vocal explanations.
The clearly arranged design offers easy navigation supported by numerous illustrations. The contents are arranged for easy reading on the monitor as well as for printing purposes.
Originated in cooperation with Novalink Mediafactory, the CD-Rom offers high quality in multi-media due to the long time experience of Novalink Mediafactory. Boris Jermer, chair-man of Novalink Mediafactory: "This CD-Rom is especially created to give the upcoming computer generation an understanding of the subject hydrogen and a cleaner environment in the future." (www.novalink.de).
In April 2004, Hydrogeit Publisher, the only publishing company especially for hydrogen, fuel cells and renewable energies, already had released a guidebook for renewable energies and alternative fuels. At present the publisher Sven Geitmann works on a new edition of his already very successful book "Hydrogen and fuel cells" in German language which will be released presumably in autumn 2004. The preamble of this extended hydrogen manual will be written by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carl-Jochen Winter, a well-known expert on Hydrogen.

4. Honda showcases its zero emission FCX fuel cell vehicle

Honda's current generation FCX fuel cell vehicles will be key participants in a showcase rally that will drive some of the cleanest and technologically advanced vehicles in the world through some of the smoggiest regions in the USA.
The smoggy environs from Los Angeles to San Diego that will be traversed in the California Fuel Cell Partnership's "Cruisin' Southern Cal" Road Rally are familiar turf for the Honda fuel cell vehicle team. Honda has already delivered five fuel cell vehicles to the City of Los Angeles beginning in 2002 and two vehicles to the City of San Francisco earlier this year; and two additional vehicles were leased to the South Coast Air Quality Management District in June. Honda also operates three more FCX vehicles full time as part of its fleet demonstration program. All 12 vehicles are in use every day as regular fleet vehicles.
With 107 horsepower and 201 foot-pounds of torque, the second-generation 2005 FCX offers seating for four and has an EPA estimated range of 190 miles, making it practical for a wide range of real-world applications. Power is supplied by a fuel cell that takes in gaseous hydrogen from a 5000 psi tank and produces electricity to drive the vehicle's electric motor. Electric energy is stored in a Honda manufactured ultra-capacitor. The only by-products are water vapour and heat.
"Honda's work on hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles has progressed rapidly and we look forward to the ultimate commercial success of these zero-emission vehicles," said Ben Knight, vice president of Honda R&D Americas. "While we are still demonstrating the capability of this new mode of transportation, we are proud of Honda's real world record of accomplishment -- having its fuel cell vehicles in commercial use for almost two years."
Honda plans to lease about 30 fuel cell cars in California and Japan during the next two to three years.
